The rotating quarterback system that “Papa Joe” uses still hasn’t jelled to the Nittany Lions’ expectations.
Purdue has an offense that is playing well. They are averaging 412 yards per game, including 216 rushing yards per game which is 20th in the nation. They average over 32 points per game.
Purdue‘s quarterback is Caleb Tarbush who is 75 for 117 in completions for 787 yards, 5 touchdowns with 2 interceptions. He also has rushed for over 120 yards with one touchdown. So he is dangerous.
When Caleb needs a spell, Robert Mavre comes in and takes some snaps and produces. So that quarterback tandem has been working well for Purdue in keeping defenses off guard and when they throw in that strong rushing attack, they will keep this game close.
There is no doubt that Penn State is dominant on defense. They rank in the top 5 in the nation in many defensive categories.
However, as mentioned earlier they struggle on offense and I believe this is the key to the game.
Purdue’s defense is not that great, but I think they are good enough to keep things close.
I see a low scoring affair with Penn State coming out on top, but Purdue covering the 12 points.
I trust that all my Hokeamaniac brothers and sisters would have hoped that I predicted that Michigan State would cover against Michigan this week. This probably would have ensured a Michigan win and cover since my two loses have been picking against Michigan. Well, I believe I have learned my lesson.
Danny Dee’ Sawicki’s B1G Pick of the Week is Purdue plus 12
Last week’s pick: Northwestern plus 8 ½ (L)
Season record: 3-2-1
