Hand Gives Finger to Wolverines, Picks Crimson Tide

I suppose that in light or recent events impacting Brady Hoke’s Wolverines, specifically their performance the past few games, it should come as no surprise that the top defensive line recruit (on most accounts) Da’Shawn Hand gave his verbal commitment today to Nick Saban.

Hand recently narrowed down his top choices publicly to Alabama, Florida and Michigan. He was also considering schools such as South Carolina, LSU and USC among others. It was widely believed that Michigan did in fact have the inside track, but a recent visit to Alabama to meet with Coach Saban and his staff obviously swayed his decision.

Now, since the standout high school defensive end prospect out of Woodbridge High School in Woodbridge, VA selected Alabama to play his college football, rankings and ratings will be considered “overrated” and “fan” talk only.

Since Hand never actually verbally committed to the Wolverines, this loss can’t really be counted against the status of the program. But the fact that most felt Hand was good for Michigan, it is unknown at this time what additional recruiting repercussions might be soon to follow.

What will be interesting to watch now is how this decision impacts the No. 2 overall prospect (Rivals) cornerback out of Paramus, NJ Jabrill Peppers who committed to the Ann Arbor school in May.

Either way there is a saying in these parts that, “This is Michigan!” And that is true. If you don’t want to be here, then we wish you well and good luck to you in the future. Those that do come to Ann Arbor and those that choose to stay will be champions. They say that too!
