Michigan falls in Columbus, loses 26-21

The Michigan Wolverines had an opportunity to beat the Ohio State Buckeyes for the second consecutive year but couldn’t get it done.

The Wolverines had a halftime 21-20 lead but unfortunately in the second half the conservative play-calling and missed opportunities along with some defense that was less than stellar allowed the Buckeyes to dominate the half and earn a 26-21 victory in Urban Meyer’s first Michigan/Ohio State game as head football coach of the Buckeyes.

The victory also allowed the Buckeyes to finish the season undefeated and potentially sets them up for a split national championship opportunity in the Associated Press poll depending upon how things play out in the BCS.

The Wolverines could not match Ohio State’s offensive performance and allowed Ohio State 22 first downs to Michigan’s 13. The Wolverines allowed the Buckeyes 396 total yards of offense and they were doubled up on the rushing yard totals 207 to 108.

Michigan also committed four turnovers to Ohio State’s two.

The Wolverines were unable to even cross midfield the second half and were shutdown completely by the Ohio State defense.

Devin Gardner was the Wolverines’ primary quarterback and completed 11 of his 20 passing attempts for 171 yards with one touchdown and one interception. On the ground, Gardner carried the ball seven times but for a negative-28 yards total with a touchdown and a fumble.

Denard Robinson carried the ball 10 times for 122 yards and a touchdown but even though he took snaps under center at quarterback, he did not throw a pass in the game.

With the loss the Wolverines fall to 8-4, 6-2 in the Big Ten and they still have a bowl game to be played at the end of the year.

looked pretty even to me. We got some breals early, they got some breaks late. Braxton was bottled up all game, who thought he’d have so much success throwing against us?

It was even..and there for the taking. That is what makes it so painful.

    Not breals…BREAKS!
