On to the Elite 8!
The Michigan Wolverines are back in the Elite 8 for the second season in a row after taking down the Volunteers of Tennessee 73-71 in their Sweet 16 match-up from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Granted, the Wolverines didn’t set any team tournament records in the game against Tennessee, but they did cash in on 11 of their 20 3-point attempts in the game for a 55% conversion rate.
Four Wolverines scored in double-figures and were led by senior forward Jordan Morgan and his 15 points and 7 rebounds. Morgan is playing some of his most consistent basketball of his career as the sole inside presence for Michigan.
Michigan got out of rhythm midway through the second half and allowed Tennessee to cut the lead down to only 1 after being up 15 in what turned out to be a very dramatic finish.
Ultimately the Wolverines lead was just too much to overcome for the Volunteers.
Coach John Beilein’s team will next face the winner of the Kentucky vs. Louisville game coming up later Friday night.
On to the next one…
