The Iowa Hawkeyes have struggled this year to say the least and lost against a short-armed Minnesota team a week ago. Kirk Ferentz’s team only returned 11 starters in 2011.
QB James Vanderberg has struggled to be consistent, leaving the Hawkeyes immobile and grounded. This though does not exclude them because Iowa has frequently relied on a stacked running game.
The biggest difference is this season they lack a playmaker at the running back position. Marcus Coker has struggled and been inconsistent as well, yet he has shown streaks of dominance and greatness…it just hasn’t been enough this season and will not be enough on Saturday.
The biggest challenge — I believe — that Michigan faces is themselves.
The Wolverines must eliminate mistakes and errors. Penalties cannot be given away to Iowa as the Hawkeys could capitalize on them and put points on the board.
The other big thing is this is an away game.
Iowa fans have a reputation as being loud and distracting. Michigan hasn’t been on the road that often this season splitting the two road contests they’ve been in.
Shoelace and company should be prepared and with a revamped running attack lead by Fitzgerald Toussaint this game should be an easy win…we all hope at least.
Never count the Hawkeyes out though as they are expected to play their best game all year this weekend.
Iowa has home field advantage and a hunger to win but in the end it just won’t be enough as I expect Michigan to win easily.
